While on the actor’s personal life, Sunita Ahuja and Govinda’s marriage is a remarkable story of love and commitment that has endured for over three decades. Their relationship, which blossomed from a chance meeting during their youth, showcases the journey of two individuals from different backgrounds who found their way to each other despite challenges.
Sunita Ahuja recently recalled her first encounter with Govinda, when she was in Class 9 and he was a college student. The meeting took place during a family wedding, where Sunita was introduced to Govinda, who was then in his final year of BCom. During her conversation on the Time Out with Ankit podcast she said, “My sister married his maternal uncle and I saw him for the first time at their wedding. He was in his final year of BCom and I was in Class 9. My brother-in-law told me that Govinda was from Virar, a simple man who loved his mother a lot. He also mentioned that no girl could impress him.”
Intrigued by the challenge, Sunita expressed her determination to impress him, despite her brother-in-law’s skepticism. “I remember wondering what kind of boy he was, that no girl could impress him. When I told my brother-in-law I could, he said it was impossible. So, I asked him what if I did, and he challenged me to prove it first,” she recounted.
Their love story finally began to unfold during the filming of Tan-Badan, a project that Govinda was working on at the time. Sunita mentioned that Anand Singh, her brother-in-law and a director, initially offered her the lead role, but she declined due to the workload. The role eventually went to Khushbu Sundar.

On the day of the film’s Muhurat, a pivotal moment occurred. “Govinda, my brother, and I were coming in a car together. My brother was seated in the middle, and when I rested my hand on the headrest, I noticed Govinda’s hand there as well. I realized he was subtly touching mine. My immediate thought was to catch him right away. That’s how our affair began,” she recalled. This marked the beginning of their three-year courtship before they tied the knot.
