Sunil Dutt didn't like Amitabh Bachchan's voice, hence he made him play a mute character in 'Reshma Aur Shera', reveals actress Sheeba Sabir

Who would have thought that the voice which was rejected by All India Radio and many others, would eventually have a huge fan following and eventually be a part of one’s magnetic personality? We’re talking about none other than Amitabh Bachchan. During his initial struggling days, he was rejected by All India Radio as they thought his baritone was too heavy.
Infact, many film-makers also did not like his voice when he became an actor and actress Sheeba Sabir has revealed that in a recent interview. She told during a chat with Siddharth Kannan, “Dutt Sahab (Sunil Dutt) told me, ‘‘We hated his voice. His voice sounds similar to a radio jockey.’” She further added that this was the reason why Dutt cast Big B as a mute character in his film ‘Reshma Aur Shera‘. The film was produced and directed by Sunil Dutt.
Meanwhile, Sheeba also said that her father-in-law Manmohan Sabir who was the producer on Bachchan’s film ‘Saat Hindustani’ was similarly opinionated about his voice. “He told me, ‘Ek hero aata tha hamare ghar mein aur aake mere pairon mein baitha tha. Humko lagta tha kaisi hai awaaz iski, gunjti hui’ (A hero used to come to our house and sit at my feet. I used to find his voice strange, it was booming).”
Bachchan’s baritone voice is now considered iconic and is such an essential part of his personality and stardom today. On work front, Big B was last seen in ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘. The actor is currently busy with ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati‘ season 16.
