Rakesh Roshan is known for a long list of memorable movies in his filmography – be it ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Koyla’, ‘Koi..Mil Gaya’ or ‘Krrish’. The producer-director is quite elated as the Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan starrer ‘Karan Arjun’ is set to re-release in cinemas almost after three decades. As Etimes caught up with him for an in-depth chat, we also asked him about his thought process as a director. Unfortunately, he’s now announced that he will not be directing any movie now, which means that ‘Krrish 4‘ will not be helmed by him.
During the chat, when we tell him that fans are sad that he won’t be directing Hrithik in ‘Krrish 4’ as not many directors can present Hrithik in this manner, here’s how he reacted. “Yes, I’m not directing it. But we wil sit on the screenplay, I’m there behind the project. It will be made the way I make it. So, fans shouldn’t be worried.”
He further reflected on his actor-director bond with Hrithik. He feels that many other directors have also been able to portray Hrithik beautifully on-screen. Picking up his favourite movies of his son, the director said, “He has done a very good job in Guzaarish, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Fighter, WAR.” He further added, “The only thing is, he’s my son so I know him and he knows me. When he’s not doing something not right, I can tell him openly, ‘Duggu this is not right.’ He can also tell me things honestly. He can tell me, ‘Papa if you place the camera like this, I can be able to give better expression.’ Woh mujhe bol sakta hai, kisi aur director ko nahi bol sakta.”
Roshan further reflected on how being a family of creative people coming together in a movie is a big boon. “There are 5 pillars in any movie. Producer, director, actor, heroine and music – 4 toh hum hi hai.”
