Nana Patekar, who had worked with Sooraj Barjatya before, remembered a time on a film set when the filmmaker picked up Nana’s shoes. When Nana tried to stop him, thinking Sooraj, as the heir to Rajshri Productions, shouldn’t do such tasks, Sooraj insisted that it was his job, as he was working as an assistant at the time.
In an interview with The Lallantop, Nana recalled a shoot for Pratighaat, directed by N Chandra, where Sooraj was the assistant director. One day, Sooraj brought Nana his shoes, and when Nana told him not to, Sooraj insisted on doing it, explaining that as an assistant, it was his responsibility, despite being the heir to a major organisation.
The actor shared that many years later, he met Sooraj at a function and was surprised to see that he hadn’t changed. Sooraj greeted him with a bow and folded hands, and Nana was amazed by how genuinely simple and humble he remained, appreciating that Sooraj’s kindness was authentic.
Sooraj Barjatya is known for directing popular films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo. His last film, Uunchai, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Neena Gupta, Boman Irani, and Anupam Kher, earned him the National Award for Best Director. In a previous interview, Sooraj mentioned planning his next project with Salman Khan, but has not made any official announcements yet.
