Speculations are rife about Shah Rukh Khan‘s Carter Road residence, Amrit, being up for redevelopment. Reports suggest that builders are eyeing the building, which includes a terrace flat owned by the superstar that he previously used as an office space.
Varun Singh, Founder of SquareFeatIndia, shared with ETimes, “According to brokers in Bandra, recently, 10 builders showed interest in redeveloping this property, of which seven even gave presentations to the society. In the coming week, the committee may finalise two developers and evaluate who is better suited for the redevelopment.”
Shedding light on how Shah Rukh acquired the property, actor-producer Viveck Vaswani shared with us, “Until Shah Rukh Khan got married, he lived in my house. After he married Gauri, they moved to an empty flat owned by Aziz Mirza in Devdutt, next to The Taj Lands End. However, when Aziz’s wife left her job at TIFR, they had to move back to Devdutt.”
Vaswani shared that after their marriage, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri briefly lived in a small 1RK flat in Asuda Kutri, Mount Mary, but the space was not suitable for them. Around this time, filmmaker Prem Lalwani offered Shah Rukh a role in the film Guddu. Shah Rukh reportedly asked Lalwani for Rs 40 lakhs to purchase a flat, promising to block dates for the film in return. Lalwani agreed and provided the amount, which Shah Rukh used to buy the flat Amrit. The property, owned by AK Talwar – fondly called Mamaji, Rajesh Khanna’s maternal uncle – became their home. Vaswani added that the arrangement worked well for everyone, with Shah Rukh securing a new residence and Lalwani being satisfied with the collaboration.
