Actor Chandan Roy Sanyal, who is known for his role as Bhopa Swami in Prakash Jha’s web series Aashram, recently shared insights into filming intimate scenes with co-star Aaditi Pohankar in Season 3, Part 2. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, he spoke about the care and professionalism required to handle such scenes on set.
“So obviously, Prakash Ji is an experienced director, and he ensured that only a minimal crew was present on set during the shoot. It was just me, our DOP, and a few costume assistants so that Aaditi felt comfortable,” Chandan revealed. He praised Aaditi’s professionalism, adding, Before filming, he engaged in multiple conversations with her to establish trust. Off-screen, they built a good rapport by sharing meals and life experiences, which helped create a strong sense of comfort between them.
“So before the show I was to win her confidence, over the months we were shooting, we became good friends, we shared food, a lot of experiences from life so we became good friends, so once you get the confidence your co-star that is a lady, aur woh bohot zaruri hota hai kyuki, duniya aaurto ke liye mushkil hai, so you have to function from a place of love, affection, care, so I said to myself, ‘Whatever I do with my co-actor, it’s from a space of love, affection, care,’” Chandan explained.
Reflecting on his character’s unexpected transformation in Aashram, Chandan noted that Swami’s shift from a ruthless capitalist to a completely different persona was something no one had anticipated. He explained that while performing, he viewed Bhupendra as inherently a good person, which allowed him to bring a human touch to the intimate scenes, something that took audiences by surprise, especially since, shortly after, his character was seen engaging in intense action sequences.
He also highlighted the importance of trust and safety on set, stressing that an actress feeling secure is essential. He shared that he always approached his co-actors with care, respect, and warmth, which contributed to the authenticity of their performances. Over the years, the cast and crew had developed a strong bond, making the set feel like a family. He credited director Prakash Jha for fostering an environment where Aaditi felt protected, ensuring a smooth and comfortable filming experience.
