Chunky Panday opens up on Anupam Kher's advice to him for Vijay 69; 'When I play a character, I tend to...'

Chunky Panday recently spilled the details of his new film, alongside Anupam KherVijay 69‘. The movie is to be directed by Akshay Roy and produced by Maneesh Sharma, and Netflix has set the date at November 8. According to the reports by Mid Day, Panday says he was told by Kher to “pull back a bit” for the role. “When I play a character, I tend to go over the top and create a caricature. Kher told me to rein it in, as this isn’t that kind of film,” he noted.
‘Vijay 69’ is a film full of determination, humor, and heartfelt moments, delivering an inspiring narrative that inspires viewers to take up new opportunities. Panday, who played a Parsi character, credited Kher for guiding his performance. He said that Kher believes he has a shot at winning an award for this role. “Kher saab had won for ‘Vijay’ [1988], and this time he thinks I will win for ‘Vijay 69’,”he said with a smile.
Reflecting on his long career, Panday talked about how the landscape has changed because of OTT’s introduction. He said his dream has always been to be a star and many times forgot to act for it. That the “good guy” always played the central character, while Kher, among others, might have gone through so many diverse characters. Digital entertainment has multiple stories, hence Panday can’t just enjoy the ones he’s getting.
A recently released trailer of ‘Vijay 69’ shows Kher as an angry old man who thinks he needs to do something significant before time runs out. He decides to attempt a triathlon and speaks about this with his friend, played by Panday, who dismisses this idea initially but later thinks of accompanying him.
This is what Kher added: “For me, it has been personal as this film is my 40 years in the industry. He had learnt swimming at 69 because of this role. That makes me feel age is just a number.” He added, “It is the people who can either take up the challenge or restrict themselves. The movie’s motivational quotient lies there. I am looking forward to this film. The storyline speaks about hope and resilience, which are much needed.” Both actors seem eager for this film, with hope that maybe audiences might appreciate a story full of hope and resilience.
