Varun Dhawan’s latest release, Baby John, has opened to encouraging responses from audiences, with many applauding the actor’s gritty and raw performance. The film, which marks Varun’s departure from his usual light-hearted roles, is on track to achieve a significant milestone as the biggest opener post-pandemic for a non-franchise film.
Early estimates suggest that Baby John is expected to rake in Rs. 13-15 crore on its opening day. Despite stiff competition from blockbuster hits like Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 and Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, the Christmas holiday boost has given the film an edge at the box office.
Baby John has outperformed recent Bollywood releases like Satyaprem Ki Katha, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Yodha, Badhaai Do, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, and Tere Baaton Main Aisa Uljha Juya.
However, Baby John faces challenges despite its promising start. The film is the second choice for Hindi circuits, trailing behind Pushpa 2, and ranks third in metropolitan areas after Pushpa 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King. The holiday factor has contributed significantly to its initial numbers.
Despite these obstacles, Baby John has managed to carve a niche for itself, thanks to Varun Dhawan’s strong performance and the festive season’s boost. Its ability to sustain at the box office will depend on its word-of-mouth appeal, especially given its competition with two juggernauts, Pushpa 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King.
Baby John is produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, and Jyoti Deshpande. Directed by Kalees and presented by Atlee, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff and Wamiqa Gabbi. It also has a powerful cameo by Salman Khan.
